Rebecca J Rockett

Dr Rebecca Rockett is a Senior Research Fellow at the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases, University of Sydney and the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology – Public Health at the Westmead campus. Her overall research aim is to improve the detection and treatment of existing and emerging, high burden infectious diseases. Dr Rockett completed a PhD in molecular virology at the University of Queensland in 2015, where she described the pathogenesis of newly discovered human polyomaviruses. With an extensive background in molecular diagnostics she has led the development of molecular methods to detect a range of infectious diseases, including human Influenza viruses, novel respiratory viruses, malaria and STIs. After her PhD, she further developed her skills in next generation sequencing and bioinformatics. At Sydney ID, she uses genomics to understand and contain infectious disease outbreaks, detect antimicrobial resistance and investigate vaccine breakthrough.
